Development of Addu Meedhoo Multi-Purpose Community Park

Funded through the 2021 CSO Grant from the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment
Project Overview


Recognizing the need for a public space that promotes health, wellbeing, and community interaction, Nalafehi Meedhoo launched the Addu Meedhoo Multi-Purpose Community Park project in 2021. Located near the popular Meedhoo Swimming Track area, the park is designed to offer diverse recreational facilities for all age groups.

Key Highlights

Phase 1

  • Relocated plants and levelled the ground for development.

  • Constructed two pavilions and two changing rooms.

  • Carried out landscaping works and planted new trees.

  • Developed a jogging track

Phase 2 (Ongoing)

  • Installation of children’s play equipment.

  • Construction of a volleyball court.

  • Installation of outdoor showers next to the changing rooms

  • installation of outdoor gym equipment.

Importance and Benefits
  • Promoting Healthy Living: The park encourages physical activity, helping to prevent long-term illnesses linked to sedentary lifestyles.

  • Community Wellbeing: Provides a safe, beautiful space for families, youth, and elderly citizens to gather, socialize, and engage in outdoor activities.

  • Multi-Purpose Use: Supports sports, relaxation, and serves as a facility for swimmers using the Meedhoo Swimming Track.

  • Environmental Value: Landscaping enhances the island’s natural beauty and promotes a greener community environment.

Results (Phase 1 Completed)
  • Key infrastructure like pavilions, changing rooms, and landscaping were completed, making the park partially accessible to the public.

  • Ongoing efforts in Phase 2 aim to make the park a vibrant recreational hub in Addu Meedhoo.
